Overview
Curriculum
The Theatre Education program of Ball State University will prepare you to successfully run your own theatre program and be an effective classroom teacher from day one. You will be provided with a broad foundation in performance, theatre design and technology, dramatic literature, and theatre history to prepare you for all areas of a high school drama curriculum and production program. You will also complete a strong core of liberal arts courses.
- An all-undergraduate curriculum ensures you will get teaching and directing opportunities early and often.
- Learning to effectively communicate, collaborate, and problem solve in the classroom is a major focus of the program.
- You will take a variety of education courses from Ball State University’s nationally acclaimed Teachers College.
- The curriculum allows for exciting immersive learning opportunities to collaborate with other disciplines and get involved in projects with real-world impact.
- We are an active award-winning participant in the Educational Theatre Association (EdTA).
- The teaching major in theatre requires 86 credits, along with the additional 33 credits of core courses and two general electives that are part of the University Core Curriculum.

Work Opportunities
- You will have access to numerous opportunities in and outside the classroom to put your skills into practice. Theatre education students produce, direct and design shows with local community partners including Burris Laboratory/ Indiana Academy, Muncie Civic Theatre, and Northside Middle School (Muncie Community Schools).
- You can be actively involved in the state thespian festival, judging and coaching events, working with the All-State show, and teaching workshops.
- You will have the exciting opportunity to collaborate with music education peers on the nationally recognized PRISM Project.

General requirements
- Admission to Ball State is competitive. We review each individual application to consider your academic performance, level of course work, and English proficiency test scores
- Admission criteria include the strength of your high school curriculum and your performance, curricular patterns, and if your grade trends in academic courses were positive and consistent
- SAT/ACT scores are not required for admission but scores may be used to meet our English proficiency requirement
- You must pay a nonrefundable application fee of U.S. $60
- You must provide high school transcripts and diplomas from all institutions where you have studied in the past. They must be submitted in English or with an official translation
