Overview
The B.A. Chemistry Major offered by the Ohio University is for those students who do not plan on pursuing a graduate degree in chemistry, but wish to pursue a career that will incorporate their background in chemistry such as a laboratory setting, K-12 education (with additional credentialing), law, etc.Due to changes in standards for teacher licensure in the State of Ohio, the current program in chemistry is subject to change. If you are interested in becoming licensed to teach chemistry at the secondary level, contact the Office of Student Services in the Patton College of Education.
Opportunities Upon Graduation
Students with a B.A. in chemistry can go on to a wide range of higher education and career opportunities such as laboratory work, K-12 education (with additional credentialing), business, marketing, law, etc.The Chemistry B.A. can also be complemented with the OHIO Certificate in Entrepreneurship or OHIO Certificate in Law, Justice & Culture. The Chemistry B.A. can also be complemented by a one-year clinical masters at OHIO in education with licensure, see Initial Masters with Licensure.
Examples of possible employers for those with chemistry degrees include, but are not limited to, the following: U.S. Food and Drug Administration, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Department of Agriculture, public health departments, institutions of higher education, the chemical, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and biotechnology industries, research organizations, etc.Upon completing the requirements for the B.S. degree with a major in chemistry, you are eligible for professional status in the American Chemical Society. Completion of a B.A. degree in chemistry does not qualify you for certification.Programme Structure
