As technology continues to evolve, it remains an essential component of business, and professionals in Information Systems are needed to support it. The University of Utah’s degree in Information Systems will give students the tools to manage the technical direction of business, solve technological issues, and implement new technological advances to enrich business operations. Program coursework focuses on the intersection of business and technology: students take classes in not only business concepts but also information systems concepts, such as databases, programming, networking, and web development.

The Student Experience

If you’re looking for extracurricular activities to give you experience and help you pad your resume, consider joining the TEK Club, the information systems club that is also a chapter of the Association for Information Systems. Additional IS and business clubs available to students include the Business Scholars Club and Hack the U. Students may also complete degree enrichment activities, such as an undergraduate research project, internship, or learning abroad experience.

Career Opportunities

Information Systems graduates work in a variety of fields, including cyber security, business intelligence, analytics, project management, network administration, database administration, and systems architecture. Other career opportunities include computer forensics, mobile application development, software analysis, or data modeling. Use the networking skills and experience gained from extracurricular activities like the TEK club You can also freelance or join a firm as a consultant, become a teacher or professor (after additional education), or pursue technical writing.
