The philosophy major is especially well regarded as preparation for law and medical school. Along with core courses in ancient, modern and contemporary philosophy, you’ll take specialized courses of your choosing from offerings as diverse as social philosophy, environmental ethics, philosophy of mind/cognitive science, and philosophy of film.

Applicants for both freshman and transfer admission must submit the following:

  • Application form with an application-processing fee, drawn from either a U.S. bank or a U.S. dollar account.
  • Scores from the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) or American College Testing (ACT).
  • Official TOEFL or IELTS scores. English proficiency is measured through the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System

Grants:

  • The Federal Pell Grant is the largest federal student aid gift assistance program available to undergraduates.

  • The South Carolina Need-Based Grant is a program awarded to South Carolina residents demonstrating financial need.

Loans:

  • Federal Perkins Undergraduate Loan - Awards are made on the basis of financial need, with priority given to students demonstrating exceptional need.
  • Federal Graduate PLUS Loan - Students enrolled in graduate programs can apply. Students must enroll at least half-time (five hours) and maintain satisfactory academic progress.
