This nationally accredited degree program prepares students to promote healthy lifestyles and enhance quality of life for individuals and communities. Health educators work in a variety of exciting work settings that include nonprofit community health organizations, public health agencies, worksite and health promotion programs, schools, and voluntary health agencies.

About

The core competencies of an entry-level health educator that have been identified by our profession serve as the framework for our curriculum. To date, 100% of our graduates who have taken the national certification exam have succeeded in becoming a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES).

The purpose of this program is to prepare students for careers as athletic trainers, coaches, exercise physiologists, health/fitness specialists, health educators, physical education teachers, and recreation & leisure specialists. Additionally, to provide a strong undergraduate preparation in health sciences so students can pursue degrees in physical therapy, occupational therapy, dentistry, medicine, and/or research in exercise, nutrition, and preventive health. The programs offer a comprehensive array of didactic courses and laboratory experiences designed to develop high quality professionals. Students pursuing the bachelor of science in education degree with teaching fields in health education and human performance must meet admission requirements to the School of Education.

General Requirements

Key documents required of all applicants are:
  • Official high school transcript
  • Sent from school in a sealed envelope
  • Includes the school's official seal or signature of an administrator
  • Electronic copies are only official if sent from TRex (for Texas schools), Parchment or Naviance. Emailed transcripts, copies and faxes are not accepted.
  • Must show grades received through the end of the junior year as well as a class rank and GPA. If your school does not rank, submit a school profile or letter from the school.
  • Plan to graduate early? Send documentation from the school informing us of your intention.
  • Electronic transcripts are processed in 3-5 days versus 2-4 weeks for paper transcripts.
