Metropolia University of Applied Sciences is Finland’s largest university of applied sciences. We provide higher education in the fields of Business, Culture, Health Care & Social Services, and Technology. Metropolia offers 6 Bachelor's and 6 Master's degree programmes conducted in English. Application period for studies is once in a year.

Our objective is to create a spark to make students become motivated, enthusiastic and to exceed themselves! Enthusiastic learners will develop their professional expertise and take responsibility for their own learning.

In Metropolia we believe in workbased collaborative learning and teaching in teams. Teaching is planned, implemented and assessed together.

The rapidly changing world requires lifelong learning and continuous update of skills during the career. Our learning environments, learning objectives and teaching and assessment methods support high-quality learning, the development of expertise, and future work life skills.


Research, development and innovation are part of the basic mission for us. We focus on development and innovation activities, as well as supporting research, for the benefit of the Helsinki metropolitan area. For our students, our research, development and innovation activities offer an exciting opportunity to apply their own competence, and to develop skills necessary in working life and for becoming an entrepreneur. Every one of our degree students participates in an innovation project consisting of at least 10 credit points.

Our strengths are high-quality expertise in different fields, the implementation of ideas into practice and the fine-tuning of solutions so that they meet customer needs.

Student services

Student well-being services aim to provide adequate support and means for promoting and managing well-being. Student well-being services are available to students throughout the study period.

Counselling psychologists and well-being advisors offer support in challenges of personal life and studies through individual appointments, education and small group activities.

Our students are insured in case of study-related accidents. Student union members also receive many other advantages.

Housing services

Metropolia does not have housing services to offer. Thus it is the student's responsibility to find an accommodation for the period of their studies. The majority of Metropolia's students are able to secure their accommodation with the Foundation for Student Housing in the Helsinki Region (HOAS). HOAS is an independent organisation which provides housing for students in the capital region.

Library services

The library of the Metropolia University of Applied Sciences consists of several campus libraries with collections that complement each other. In addition to the eight Metropolia libraries, you can use the services of our two partner libraries.

ICT services

Metropolia students and instructors use high quality workstations installed with broad selections of software to boost up study and work productivity. Google’s and Microsoft’s new cloud services support time and place independent instruction and studying. The services are available to Metropolia students and staff. The Google service offers all students unlimited storage space.

Medical services

Student health care is provided by municipalities. Public health nurses on various Metropolia campuses provide individual health meetings, health inspections and brief health counselling. Other health care services are provided by public health care centres and private health clinics.

Campus life

We concentrate our operations to four campuses by 2019. Metropolia’s four campuses in Finland's metropolitan area create an open and attractive learning environment and network which boost the area and its people to develop and succeed.

Sports facilities

Metropolia University of Applied Sciences and the Student Union METKA offer plenty of possibilities for sports and leisure activities during your studies.

Metropolia’s sports day, MetroSport, is held in September. During the day you can try out more than 30 different sports, get to know METKA’s sports selection and enjoy the performances and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere.

Student clubs

METKA is the student union of Metropolia University of Applied Sciences. It functions as a bridge between the students and Metropolia.

Every degree student can join the student union. Once you have become a member of METKA, you get a Samok or a Lyyra student card, which provides you with a variety of discounts and benefits.


Metropolia was awarded 2011 FINEEC Audited -Quality Assurance Certificate by the Finnish Education Evaluation Centre. Metropolia complies with the requirements of the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS), which facilitates the measurement and transfer of learning experiences between institutions.

I enjoyed doing with hands. Some teachers should learn to teach. In worst case, a teacher used to spent entire 2 hours just reading a 70-page pdf word by word!

The standard of teachers varies greatly. Some teachers are exceptionally professional, but some cannot really live up to the expectations of university level of music education. The air quality in the school buildings is pretty bad, so for people who need to stay practising for long times it might affect your health quite badly. School has nice opportunities for...

Helsinki is a student friendly city where everything is at a near distance and Metropolia is a very good environment especially for exchange students.
