The University of Vilnius, one of the oldest and most famous establishments of higher education in Eastern and Central Europe, was founded in 1579. Functioning for a long time as the only school of higher learning in Lithuania, it was a preserver of cultural and scientific traditions, and has played a significant part in the cultural life not only of Lithuania, but the neighboring countries.

Probably no student can imagine their productive studies without a library. Vilnius University is proud to have the oldest (1570) and the newest (2013) libraries in The Baltics’. All students of Vilnius University may to use the university library. Lithuanian student card is necessary in order to use the library.

Computer facilities
You may use internet in the General Reading Room and Internet Reading Room at Vilnius University Library. Students may also get access to Internet at the computer rooms at each faculty.
The Lithuanian health system is organised around the family doctor. When you have a medical problem he or she is the first to contact, except in cases of the emergency. If you need a consultation with a specific doctor, the family doctor will see you first and then refer you to one. Medication prescribed by a doctor can be bought at the nearest pharmacy.
During the academic year students will have an opportunity to attend many events organized by Vilnius University and each faculty separately.
Students can join different lectures leaded by local and invited professors, concerts, cinema evenings and so on. However there are two events that shouldn’t be missed by any student.
