Overview

The  Lithuanian Studies programme from  Vilnius University  you will become familiar with the culture, literature, history, social and political life of Lithuania, and learn about the neighbour Baltic countries.

What comes after?

You will learn to analyze and evaluate language, culture, and literature in a broader context, learn about the development of Lithuanian society in a regional context, master contemporary methods of researching language, literature, and sociocultural phenomena.

The program is intended for:

• People from the Lithuanian diaspora (born and raised abroad, who have completed general education outside Lithuania);

• Non-Lithuanian citizens living in Lithuania;

• Foreign citizens interested in Lithuania, its culture, literature, language, and society.

This is a flexible study program that is open to students’ interests: you will be able to choose 25% of your courses according to your interests in various fields. You will be able to study language, literature, and sociocultural phenomena, choose subjects from other disciplines (politics, history, management, pedagogy, etc.), or study one of more than 20 languages.

Students will be able to learn Lithuanian upon admission to the program or in an advanced group.

• After completing the Lithuanian Studies program, graduates will acquire the necessary skills to continue their Master’s studies in the fields of humanities and social sciences: linguistics, culture, education, political science, international relations, history, etc.

• Graduates will be able to pursue a wide range of activities. This will depend on your goals and preferences, as you can combine a background in Lithuanian studies with management, communication, pedagogy or other studies to create the career profile you want.

• Graduates of Lithuanian studies programs have various career prospects in different fields and countries. You can work in the fields of culture, media, tourism, and embassies. You will also be able to work as scientists, researchers, and team leaders in academic institutions. Knowledge of the Lithuanian language and a broad understanding of the cultural context of Lithuania and region will give you many advantages in the job market, both in Lithuania and in international companies in other countries.
