About

History

Sterling College was founded in 1887 as Cooper Memorial College by the Synod of Kansas of the United Presbyterian Church of North America. The original name honored a revered former leader of the denomination.

The original curriculum offered four majors and a preparatory department offering high school courses for those students unable to attend such institutions in their home communities.

Education

The Interdisciplinary studies major combines the strengths of two or more existing majors in order to better prepare students for a specific career path.

Be trained to study the Bible in depth, including its original languages, its historical context, and its cohesive story, as a step toward seminary or ministry.

Prepare to find satisfying career opportunities in laboratory bench work, graduate studies in chemistry or pharmacy, and in various health-related professions. Students may also earn an education licensure for grades 6-12 in conjuncture with our education department.

Develop critical thinking and reflection skills about the theological, philosophical, and ethical claims of Christianity.

Library services

The Mabee Library is a gateway to global information resources and includes an academic computing lab. Computer workstations provide network access to the online catalog, over 50 bibliographic databases, and the Internet.
The Crebbs museum, located in the Library, was a 1964 gift of Chester M. Crebbs and his wife in memory of his parents. It houses Indian artifacts and items of local history.

ICT services

Each residence hall has a computer lab with standard software features, internet access, and e-mail 24 hours a day.
Kitchenette facilities are available in each residence hall, as are public lounges with cable TV and laundry facilities.
