Founded in the fifteenth century, St Andrews is Scotland's first university and the third oldest in the English speaking world. Teaching began in the community of St Andrews in 1410 and the University was formally constituted by the issue of a papal bull in 1413.
The majority of research at the University of St Andrews takes place within academic schools. However, the University also supports a large number of world-class, often cross-discipline or cross-institutional, research centres or institutes:
The Global Student Satisfaction Awards empower students across the globe to determine the best universities of 2021. Universities with a score above 4.0 (out of 5) in any of the 8 award categories, receive Badges of Excellence. Congratulations!
The University offers extensive support to all students connected with the University, through Student Services and the Chaplaincy.
Acting as the first port of call for both undergraduate and postgraduate students, Student Services is tasked with helping students at St Andrews achieve what they deserve: the best university experience possible. Student Services also manages communication with anyone who is concerned about a student at the University, from parents and guardians to those in the local community and external agencies.
Student Services coordinates four main functions, each committed to monitoring and enhancing the student experience.
Our residences range from beautiful stone-built listed buildings full of original period features, to stylish new apartments, built to high environmental and sustainability standards. Importantly, all of our accommodation adheres to government licensing requirements so you can be certain that we always meet a rigorous standard of accommodation maintenance and health and safety criteria.
A range of catered and self-catered accommodation is available, with a choice of standard rooms with shared bathroom facilities or ensuite. Ensuite rooms include a toilet, sink and shower attached to the room for the sole use of the occupants.
For those lucky enough to live in St Andrews, the town offers a wealth of services and facilities. The University works hard to maintain a good relationship between all residents — from members of staff and their families, to students and the rest of the local community. St Andrews residents can benefit from a number of University facilities available to them — even if they do not have a direct connection to the University.
I have been admitted but not started due to financial issues
It's been a weird year in this pandemic and I've spent hardly any time there, but I've felt supported overall.
So far, I haven’t had a fulfilled experience because of pandemic restrictions and online learning. Other than that, it’s a great university with a great academic level and lots of student support. I am very satisfied with how well the university cares for its students
