NU was announced in 2006 by the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and founded in 2010 as the country’s flagship institution for academics and researchers to collaborate. We’re also the country’s first global-level, autonomous research university, granted by law on 19 January, 2011 “On the status of ‘NU,’ ‘Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools’ and ‘Nazarbayev Fund.’”
At Nazarbayev University, eight schools offer students limitless opportunities to explore diverse fields of academia and collaborate in research aimed at addressing pressing global issues. NU’s academic and research programs are developed in partnership with leading universities ranked among the world’s top 30 higher education institutions.
Nazarbayev University, mandated to become a Research University, conducts its activities based on principles of academic freedom, institutional autonomy, integrity, merit, integration of education, research, and industry, collegial decision-making, social responsibility, and transparency.To accomplish excellence in research with high global significance and to serve national needs, we will focus our resources on selected five research thrusts and their priorities where a critical mass of researchers and state-of-the-art research infrastructure and facilities can be established.
The Career and Advising Center (CAC) promotes lifelong career skills through workshops and professional development programs. The Center builds partnerships with employers and internship providers to support the recruitment of NU students and alumni through on-campus events, invites different companies for presentations, organizes field visits, organizes events for NU alumni and manages work obligation process.

The Academic Advising Office (AAO) works with first-year undergraduate students. AAO provides assistance in exploring, developing, and implementing their educational goals and plans. Students have the opportunity to receive individual consultations and attend group sessions with their academic advisors during the academic year regarding major choice, course selection and course registration, transfer process, academic performance, academic policies and procedures, resources and opportunities.
Living in the dormitories of NU and taking advantage of its academic, sport and other facilities not only facilitates students’ personal developments, but also inspires them for future commitments to the University and the society in general.
All dormitory rooms are equipped with everything needed for a comfortable living: beds, desks, closet space, bedside tables, Wi-Fi routers, etc., so there is no need to bring any extra furniture. Room dimensions vary according to the block.
NU Library is one of the most popular and dynamic places on campus. It is equipped with the latest technologies in library services and information resources. All library operations are fully automated. The reading rooms offer computers with Internet access and self-service loan stations. Remote access to electronic databases is also available.
It is required to complete the mandatory medical check-ups which are held prior the studies and employment and then annually to ensure timely diagnosis and prevention of diseases and maintenance of the population’s epidemiological well-being. The students, faculty and staff members are provided with the health insurance services. Students may access the Doctor’s Office on the campus.
