About

History

Carroll University, often called Wisconsin's pioneer college, is the first four-year institution of higher education in the state. We trace our history all the way back to the founding of Prairieville Academy in 1841. The university was chartered by the Wisconsin Territorial Legislature on January 31, 1846—two years before Wisconsin became a state.

Education

What does it mean to be a Pioneer? It means being part of a rich history and tradition that continue to shape our campus community. Student services

Carroll University’s Office of Student Success helps students stay on the right track, thrive during their time here and succeed at their academic and personal goals. We work with students facing a wide variety of challenges that may be obstacles to their success at Carroll. Whether it’s working one-to-one with the professionals in our office, or identifying other resources as appropriate, all students can benefit from our services and the personal attention and care we provide.

Housing services

On-campus living is part of the Pioneer journey—it’s where you’ll make friendships and memories that will last a lifetime. Staying up late, talking, studying and laughing. Binging on Netflix and video games. Challenging your roomies to board game tournaments. Discovering 50 ways to make ramen noodles. From traditional residence halls to suite-style units and apartments, Carroll has the perfect place for you to call home. All full-time students are required to live on campus until attaining senior status, with limited exceptions.

Library services

The Todd Wehr Memorial Library offers a bundle of integrated services aimed at student academic success. These services range from our collection of books and e-books tailored to the Carroll curriculum to online databases that allow Carroll’s students access to more than 100,000 journals from anywhere with an Internet connection.

Medical services

Carroll’s Student Health Services offers convenient, affordable and professional health care right on campus. Our Wright Street office is staffed by board-certified nurse practitioners and a certified medical assistant. Our goal is to educate and involve students in making informed decisions that lead to healthy outcomes.

Whether you want to crush the competition on the playing field or show your support from the stands, be ready to bring your 'A' game when it comes to Pioneer spirit. Carroll is home to 22 NCAA Division III athletic teams and competes in the nationally-recognized College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW). Go Pios!
