In the 1960s, two small liberal arts colleges were founded by community members recognizing a need for private education in our newly formed state of Hawai‘i. In 1992, a picturesque Windward college merged with a downtown university, uniting the strength of two academically strong institutions.

HPU combines the excitement of an urban downtown campus with the serenity of a campus set in the green foothills of O’ahu’s Ko’olau mountains, and its aquaculture research facility, Oceanic Institute, borders the ocean. The main campus is located in downtown Honolulu, the business and financial center of the Pacific, and it is home to the College of Business and College of Liberal Arts.

This university was extremely unprofessional and ill-prepared. The shuttle to get from campus to campus was often full or ran late which made it hard to get to class. The other campus was a 25-minute ride and there was no other way to get to and from. The cafeteria often ran out of food and had to improvise, and the options were extremely limited.
