Originally established in 1905, Northwest Missouri State University is a state-assisted, four-year regional university that also offers graduate degree programs.
Northwest offers 127 undergraduate programs and 40 graduate's programs. The business, education, geography and agriculture departments graduate the largest number of students each year. Career Services offers an "Exploring Majors" fair where students can learn about different majors on campus and find which major is the perfect fit for them.
The office of Institutional Research assists academic departments and service units with identification and measurement of key performance metrics, designs and administers mission-related surveys, develops data collection and reporting processes, maintains a dashboard/information management system and provides data analysis to support the research and strategic decisions made at various levels of the institution.

Northwest Missouri State University is a moderately selective university. All prospective students must meet established entrance criteria and be accepted through the Admissions Office before submitting disability-related documentation.
The Horace Mann Library is available for Horace Mann students and parents; and Northwest faculty, staff, and students. It is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The library is closed on days when school is not in session.
All Northwest students (graduate and undergraduate) regardless of whether they are full-time or part-time and live on or off campus, are provided with a wireless-ready laptop computer.
Northwest provides health insurance to all benefit eligible employees and pay 100% of the premiums. Employees may elect to purchase coverage for one dependent or the entire family. If electing dependent coverage, the employee would be responsible for the additional premium cost through payroll deduction.
Dieterich Hall, a seven-story high rise, is home to 294 residents. Dieterich is a non-smoking building and is coed by floor. University Wellness Services, The Station, and a sand volleyball court are located nearby.

For student organizations, there are a variety of resources available. Each group has unlimited storage for documents. There is a flyer board to advertise upcoming events and meetings, and even the possibility of holding elections in an online accessible and paper-free environment !
Northwest is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). Northwest was most recently reaffirmed for accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission in July 2012.
