The University of the West Indies (UWI) was founded in 1948 as the nucleus of a dream to bring “light, liberty and learning” within the reaches of the people of the Caribbean. The University grew rapidly, beyond all projections, and today is a multi-campus institution with an international reputation for excellence in teaching and research.
The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus' academic programmes offer diversity at both the undergraduate and graduate level. There are 5 faculties with supporting academic departments; various research units & centres; and two graduate institutions.
Faculties
A major priority at The UWI Cave Hill Campus is developing our research capacity and output in areas of critical importance to the Caribbean and international community. The mandate and vision of the School for Graduate Studies and Research is:
1) to develop the quality and relevance of graduate education and research at The University of the West Indies
2) to establish The UWI as the internationally recognised research leader in selected focal areas relevant to developing countries in tropical areas globally.

The Office of Student Services is here to help you to make the most of your Cave Hill experience. We offer a wide range of services and programmes to foster your holistic development and progression from Orientation to Graduation and beyond. Our services and programmes include Career Development Counselling, Personal and Psychological Counselling, Transportation Services, Health Services, Sports Development; we also provide special services for students with disability.
In addition, we provide opportunities for our students to participate in other programmes, such as community service opportunities, in partnership with the local business community and government.
The Frank Worrell Hall and Sherlock Hall are located at the Cave Hill Campus site whilst the most recent Keith Hunte Hall is located on University Drive.
Advantages/Features of our Accommodation:
As in any other research organisation, the Library forms a very important and integral part of the Institute. Present holdings consist of documentary material, texts on research methods and techniques, professional journals and press clippings.
Campus IT Services is the campus's information technology unit responsible for providing infrastructural, software, and user services to support academic and administrative activities.
Wireless internet and computer labs are available.
The Student Health Clinic serves registered students. It is located next to the Guild of Students.
Services OfferedThe Cave Hill Campus is characterized by its quaint and historic legacy. The campus was originally designed to accommodate approximately 500 students. However, the demand for quality education coupled with the Campus’ growing tradition of excellence has seen an exponential growth in student number, ranging from 7,000 – 9000 students per annum.
This regional campus’ great legacy has witnessed the ever-growing international student population, and as such the Campus is now home to a vibrant and diverse student from over 35 countries, China, Brazil, USA, UK and Italy.
The Academy of Sport Cave Hill (SCH) aims to attract and retain elite athletes through sport specific, high intensity training and education programmes that will develop athletic and academic skills. We are committed to fostering the personal, professional, intellectual and psychosocial development of student athletes through premium sport programmes that yield prolific personalities.
Student organisations and activities are a vital part of University life and are organised and controlled through the Guild of Students. Student organizations provide great opportunities for students to become engaged in campus life, to grow spiritually, socially and professionally while pursuing their academic endeavors. Cave hill is a diverse campus with a variety of clubs and societies to meet your particular interest.
There are academic societies catering to the special interests of students as well as artistic and cultural societies; service and religious clubs, sports clubs and island associations.
