Institut Pasteur

The Institut Pasteur was opened on November 14, 1888 thanks to Louis Pasteur’s international appeal for funds. He now had the facilities to extend vaccination against rabies, continue research on infectious diseases and share the resulting knowledge.

The Institut Pasteur is also internationally renowned for the outstanding quality of its teaching programs. The emphasis on practical aspects attracts students and researchers who wish to expand their expertise or top up their degree programs. The IP has a well equiped Education Center situated in the heart of the campus, that offers outstanding facilities for theoretical and lab sessions in a wide range of biology disciplines. Each year around 900 students follow courses.  In 2009 an international PhD program, in life sciences and biomedicine, the PPU, has been created to attract on the campus motivated students, to offer them innovative teaching methods, and to bring them to excellence.

The Institut Pasteur's scientific strategy is built on strong support for outstanding basic research that is primarily curiosity driven. To meet today's and tomorrow's health challenges, Institut Pasteur scientists aim to speed up our understanding of various physiological and pathological processes and to develop new strategies for diagnosing, preventing and treating disease. Their work covers a broad range of research fields including microbiology and infectious diseases, immunology, neuroscience, developmental biology, genetics and cancer.

All along the PhD, but in particular during the third year, the students can follow several seminars or workshop about  possibilities for their future carreer. The Institut Pasteur offers also a personalized follow-up to guide the young reserchers to find the most appropriate career pathway.
