History
Harvard Extension School has been nurturing minds and advancing careers since 1910. We were founded on the radical idea of making a high-quality education accessible and affordable to many.
Education
As one of 12 degree-granting institutions at Harvard University, we teach to the largest and most eclectic student body. We offer:
- Undergraduate degrees
- Graduate degrees
- Professional graduate certificates
- 700+ courses that meet:
- In the evening in Harvard Square
- Online weekly, featuring video lectures or live web conferences
- Online with an intensive learning weekend on the Harvard campus
Research
Research projects in which students and staff are invited to participate as subjects, whether for survey or scholarly research, must be approved in advance by Academic Services and in some cases, the Committee on the Use of Human Subjects in Research.
The Extension School ensures that students and staff are not subject to research procedures that are inappropriate, require excessive time commitments, interfere with the educational process, or violate Extension School and University policies.
Career
Career services can help you strengthen your study skills or improve your résumé. Find job postings, attend free workshops, and get help preparing for graduate school and beyond.
In addition to free workshops, the Career and Academic Resource Center at Harvard Extension School offers the following career services to registered Harvard Extension School students, degree candidates, and alumni.

Library services
Grossman Library is a reading and study library available to all Extension School students. Although books may not be borrowed, texts and articles that instructors place on reserve for their courses may be read and photocopied.
ICT services
The computer facilities at 53 Church Street and the Grossman Library allow you to utilize hundreds of the latest programs and tools to get projects—large and small—done on time. Additionally, as a registered Extension School student you are eligible for discounts on computer hardware and software.
Accreditation
We are a fully accredited Harvard school. Our degrees and certificates are adorned with the Harvard University insignia. They carry the weight of that lineage. Our graduates walk at University commencement and become members of the Harvard Alumni Association.
