The University of Bordeaux offers 245 Master and 125 Bachelor (incl. vocational) programs within the domain of Science and Technology / Law, Political Science, Economics, Management / Life and Health Sciences / Social and Human Sciences.

The field of research is a driving force of the University of Bordeaux. The excellence of its competencies in all scientific fields was recognized in July 2011 when the university was awarded the "Initiative of Excellence". This award consists of an endowment of 700M€ to support the growth and development of research. In 2016, the University of Bordeaux was one of the first universities in France to obtain confirmation of this program. 


For the duration of their studies, students are able to benefit from career guidance specialists on-site. Within the region, solid industrial partnerships have been established with the various economic sectors that exist (aeronautics, space, chemistry, health, IT, optic / laser, forestry and wine) and that offer promising career perspectives for our graduated students.

Student services

For any questions related to their stay, international students are invited to contact the Student Life Centers (BVE - "Bureau de la Vie Etudiante") and Mobility Services (International Office - for those within an exchange program), located on the main campus sites. Information is available on topics such as registration processes, student integration, French classes, student file management and follow-up, scholarship and accommodation requests, Erasmus program agreements, etc. Different university services may also be indicated should students have questions about financial support and grants, health, social, culture, sport, leisure, etc.

Housing services

International students may qualify for student accommodation aid from the Family Benefits Agency, known as the CAF (Caisse d’allocations familiales). For this aid, you must be a student, have a rental contract in your name and not be responsible for any children. For non-EU students, you will need a residence permit that is valid for over 3 months. 

Library services

The university libraries are open to students, tutors, researchers, employees and people from outside the university; they cover all the disciplines taught at the University of Bordeaux and are to be found on all its campuses.

Medical services

The staff at the Student Health Center are on hand to answer your questions and provide support for your health or student life. The following services are available: nursing care, medical/preventive consultations, vaccinations, medical-psychological consultations, medical-sporting consultations, gynecological - contraception consultations, well-being, etc.

Campus life

The University of Bordeaux has one of the largest campuses (187 hectares) in Europe. It is composed of several sites that are located near to the city and that offer a wide range of services and amenities. In terms of sports equipment, the offer is extensive: 3 synthetic and 1 football turf pitches, 5 rugby turf pitches, a sports hall of 2,000m² for basketball, tennis, table tennis, badminton etc., 3 squash courts, an athletics track, a weights room… the list goes on!

Sports facilities

For the University of Bordaux, high-level sport and amateur sport go hand in hand. Our victorious sporting performances inspire students to keep fit and develop a team spirit. For 7 consecutive years now, Bordeaux is the n°1 French university for sports and ranks n°5 within Europe - our university is also a Sports Campus of Excellence!

Student clubs

135 student associations exist at the University of Bordeaux. Some associations offer sporting activities and humanitarian or cultural projects, while others are closely associated with one or more courses of study (Law, Political Science, Economics and Management / Health Sciences / Human Sciences / Science and Technology).


The University of Bordeaux is ranked n°56 in the Times Higher Education Young University Ranking, n°30 in Reuters Europe's Top 100 Innovative Universities and 201-300 within the Shanghai General Ranking.

In Bordeaux university i learnt a lot , i improved my level in some course like coding mathematics , statistics , data analysis. And now i have two bachelors degrees.

I was doing classes of different mathematical bachelors, a master specialising in probability and statistics and a few courses of informatics. It was very difficult for me to adapt to the French system as (in contrast to my university) they usually don't give homework and the professors are doing the exercises on the blackboard, while I think that "doing" maths (if...
