About this Program

Understanding cell and system Physiology holds the key to discovering new ways of preventing and curing disease. Research in the department focuses on: ion channels and transporters, gene transcription, signal transduction, nuclear transport, synapse formation, nerve regeneration, neuroscience, immunology, and biomathematics of physiological systems. Three programs, Liberal, Major, and Honours are offered by the Department of Physiology at McGill University. All students entering the Department initially register in the Faculty program. The first year of a degree program in physiology is generally like that of other sciences, with the student studying common core courses in biology, chemistry, biochemistry and physiology.
