Overview
About this Program
Material Engineering graduates from McGill University improve the materials to improve the products that improve our lives. Everything, every electronic gadget, airplane, chair, or light bulb uses materials to make them. Materials engineering improves these materials to make your electronics faster, your airplanes lighter, your chairs stronger and your light bulbs brighter.
Students in the Materials Engineering Co-op program complete three, 4-month-long, paid work-terms in research and industrial settings worldwide. During these work terms, students perform technical engineering work and submit required assignments, for which they receive two university credits, a letter grade and a formal evaluation by the employer. Materials Co-op students have been employed in companies such as: ArcelorMittal, Bombardier, Canadian Space Agency, GE, Hatch, National Research Council, Natural Resources Canada, Novelis, Pratt and Whitney Canada, Rio Tinto, Teck, Vale Inco and Xstrata.
Engineering students may obtain a Materials Engineering Minor. By a careful selection of complementary courses, Engineering students may obtain this Minor with a minimum of 15 additional credits, representing one term beyond the typical length of the B.Eng. degree program.
