Overview

The Mathematics BSc program at York University focuses on basic concepts and then takes those concepts and creates a practical application for them. Finance and cryptography are current examples of areas to which pure mathematics is applied in significant ways.

All Mathematics students (Mathematics, Applied Math, Statistics, Math for Commerce) take common first- and second-year courses. It is in the third and fourth years that the programs begin to differentiate.

• Gain international experience! Study one year in Europe and three years at York and earn a European BSc and a York Honours BSc. Contact the program for more information.
• We encourage you to form study groups early in the term, and to use them as a help in learning your course material. Many people benefit from working together to solve problems, or just by having people around to help them get motivated to study.
• Club Infinity is York University's Mathematics Club. They are a small and informal group of students who have some interest in math. The Club meets on an irregular basis to work on club events or just party. There is no membership fee. The Club operates out of N537 Ross, the Math/Stat Student Common Room. • Use the MathLab for help with tutoring first-year math courses.
• To aid in you mathematics & statistics research — theoretical and practical — you'll have the opportunity to take advantage of York's outstanding computing facilities. We house the Gauss Lab, which features 70 high-performance workstations offering dual boot into Windows or UNIX computing environments; the advanced Multimedia Labs (AML) offers multi-platform computing environments.
