Overview
Engineering and International Development Studies at York University combines engineering training with sustained study of global development and prepares students to address technological challenges within social, environmental and policy contexts. This five-year dual BEng + BA pathway balances foundation engineering modules, specialist technical courses and interdisciplinary study in development, politics and economy. Students may choose specialisms such as civil, computer, electrical, mechanical, software or space engineering while pursuing concentrations in culture, migration, gender, environment or political economy.

Careers with Engineering and International Development Studies
Graduates have pursued roles such as Development Engineer and International Project Planner. The programme emphasises practical experience and students are encouraged to undertake a not-for-credit development internship after third year to gain applied exposure. York International assists with logistics and may provide funding to support placements in a wide variety of government and non-government organisations.
