Overview

Completion of an undergraduate program in The School of Education entitles a student to be eligible to receive initial New York State Certification. Students who earn this degree are qualified to teach in grades 7-12.

Opportunities

The Adolescent Education program at St. John's University will prepare graduates to:

Demonstrate knowledge of theories pertaining to adolescents and learning.

Identify theories and models for teaching students with exceptionalities,

diverse learners and students at risk and their application in academic instruction.

Use the principles of scientifically based research to obtain valid knowledge about instruction and assessment in the middle and high school grades.

Use the findings of scientifically based research and best practices in the field and demonstrate the effect of these changes on content and pedagogy

Complete and submit an online application. There is no application fee for online summations.

Statement of activity if you have a gap in your education of more than three months between your graduation date and date of application submission

An essay and recommendation letters are strongly encouraged, but not required, for all programs except for Pharmacy, which requires both.

Official academic records and or official certificates/results from the Ministry of Education or secondary school in original language with official English translation

Official examination results (if taken) from the examining board (i.e., International Baccalaureate, General Certificate of Education, Caribbean Examinations Council, West African Examinations Council)

Students who are home-schooled outside of the U.S. need to submit a NACES member evaluation.
