Overview
The Children’s Nursing (Hons) degree at City St George's, University of London is designed for students who are looking for a rewarding and lifelong career. You will develop your skills and interests in both general medicine and specialist areas to be a confident and compassionate child nurse. Teaching is through a range of methods including academic study, simulated learning and clinical placements.
Quick Facts:
- Children's nurses need to be versatile and resilient as they care for neonates and babies, children with acute or long-term health problems, children with mental health issues or special needs and children with life-limiting illnesses.
- Children’s nursing is a fulfilling and challenging profession where you will care for children up to the age of 16 (or in some circumstances, even up to 19*) alongside their families and carers. It is essential that as a Children's nurse you can empower children of all ages and also provide support to their families.
- Teaching is a combination of classroom theory, simulated practice and practice placements. Simulated practice takes place within the specialist Clinical Skills Centre at our Northampton Square campus, a facility designed especially for you to practice your skills in a safe environment. Through simulated practice you will not only learn the necessary practical skills to enable you to go into your placements with confidence, but develop your communication and interpersonal skills, an essential part of a child nurses role.
- On successful graduation you will be eligible to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), which provides an internationally recognised professional qualification enabling you to practice in the UK and overseas*.
- By joining a nursing course at City, University of London you will become a CapitalNurse, a link with all nursing students across London; giving you support to develop your nursing career in the capital.
- Through this relationship with CapitalNurse, our final year nursing students are currently offered a special streamlined employment scheme by all NHS Trusts in North Central London. This provides a supportive and straightforward way of moving into their first nursing roles after completing the degree.
