Zoology is ideal if you’re interested in biology but would like to focus on the scientific study of animals, from physiology to ecology and conservation.

Practical learning and laboratory experience starts in term one, with opportunities for field work from year one onwards. Your lab skills will improve further in year three with a year long research project. This is a great opportunity to contribute to real research carried out in Life Sciences and will train you for a future research or industry career. Guidance is provided by a research-active supervisor and you may work alongside a research group in the University. Some students have even had their work published in scientific journals.

You will have a broad understanding of the biology of animals, at both the organismal and the molecular level, and will have had the opportunity to focus on your particular areas of interest. Your final year project will have given you the freedom to pursue a specific research area of interest. The combined knowledge and skills gained from all years of your undergrad Zoology (Hons) degree at University of Nottingham will prepare you for either further study or a career in many varied industries including:

  • Conservation and Zoos
  • Ecological Consultancy
  • Graduate Veterinary Programmes
