Overview
You'll have a truly multidisciplinary learning experience, and will have the chance to immerse yourself in ancient ideas on subjects ranging from slavery to medicine.In addition, our department offers you the opportunity to explore the fields of archaeology, Egyptology, Greek and Roman literature and ancient philosophy. Further options are available in other areas including Modern History, Religions and Theology and History of Art.You'll also have the opportunity to take either Greek or Latin (or both) at any level, including beginner, though you can take our course without studying either of these languages.
Throughout this Ancient History course offered at The University of Manchester you'll develop a range of transferable skills, including logical and imaginative thinking, effective communication, the ability to formulate ideas and theories, and information and data interpretation and evaluation. You will also undertake independent study units which will allow you to carry out research on the topics that interest you most.

General requirements
A-level
- Grades ABB. A-level subjects will normally include at least one subject which has a written element (ie. which is not a purely practical programme). General Studies is welcomed but not normally included as part of the standard offer.
- AS level results are not considered as part of the standard admissions process at The University of Manchester.
- The University of Manchester welcomes the provision of unit information where available. Like all other information provided by applicants this may be taken into consideration when assessing your application. Unit grades will not normally form part of an offer conditions.
- Applicants must demonstrate a broad general education including acceptable levels of Literacy and Numeracy, equivalent to at least Grade C or 4 in GCSE/iGCSE English Language and Mathematics.
