Description
Ted and Pat Smith were warm friends of The University of Manchester. They married in March 1958, and Ted came to Manchester ten years later as a Professor of Metallurgy.
During his 20 years of service, Ted was a senior leader of the Department of Materials and an influential teacher to many students. Pat provided considerable support to Ted’s career, and they travelled extensively together. Ted formally retired in 1988, but they remained close friends of Manchester throughout their lives.
Benefits
Each recipient will receive an annual scholarship of £2,000 per year for up to four years of undergraduate study (not including a placement/study abroad year).
Eligibility
The Ted and Pat Smith Scholarship is a merit-based award available to students who are:
- entering Year 1 of a science or engineering degree;
- from widening participation backgrounds.
