Our course develops advanced practical skills in newspaper, magazine, broadcast and online journalism with a strong emphasis on analysing how the wider media works and examining the cultural contexts in which journalism is produced, circulated and consumed in the 21st century.
At Middlesex, we keep up to date with the latest developments in journalism and media. You will learn the fundamental skills required for a traditional role in journalism such as feature writing, interviewing and news reporting, but there is also huge scope to develop cutting-edge media skills across a range of digital and social platforms. You will carry out practical work using outstanding, professional-standard media facilities and journalism study is approached through the latest industry developments in areas such as micro-blogging, hyper-localism, ethics and press regulation.
Course highlights:- Our academic staff are professional journalists and leading academics, and your studies will be supported by two high-profile Professors in Professional Practice: Independent columnist, Yasmin Alibhai-Brown and BBC broadcast journalist, Kurt Barling.
- You will be based in The Grove, a state-of-the-art learning facility complete with professional standard equipment including radio studios, a TV newsroom with live newswire feeds, and a digital publishing suite
- We have strong links with the media industry and our students have secured prestigious work placement and employment opportunities, in organisations including Heat Magazine, BBC Worldwide, FourFourTwo Magazine, Metro Newspaper, Top Santé Magazine and The Guardian
- We offer a range student-led projects and events, such as the North London Literary Festival and guest lectures from high profile professionals - previous guest lecturers include Guardian columnist Hugh Muir and former Newsnight Editor Sian Kevill
