The BA Fashion Journalism (Hons) at University of Sunderland helps you build key skills for a career in the fashion industry, including:

Catwalk reporting
Trend forecasting
Editorial styling
Studio photoshoots
Street style photography
Podcasting
Social media storytelling
Beauty and video journalism.

You’ll learn from industry experts and take part in publishing opportunities and fashion trips. You’ll also work towards the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ) diploma. This is an industry-recognised qualification.

You’ll gain real experience as part of the Fashion North editorial team and through work placements. Past placements have included well-known titles such as Sunday Times Style, Harper’s Bazaar, Grazia, Elle, ASOS, and Glamour.

Careers

This course prepares you for a wide range of fashion careers, including:

Writing for magazines, supplements, and newspapers
Covering fashion shows
Interviewing designers
Styling for celebrities, brands, or publications
Working in public relations.

The industry qualifications you gain will also allow you to work as a general features or news writer for a magazine or newspaper.

General requirements

The typical offer is 104-120 UCAS Tariff points, from a combination of acceptable Level 3 qualifications. These may include A Levels, T Levels, BTEC Diplomas/Extended Diplomas, Scottish and Irish Highers, Access to HE Diplomas, or the International Baccalaureate.
They accept a maximum of 6 points from Level 3 Key Skills qualifications.
As part of their NCTJ accreditation, we'll also invite you to an informal interview. We’d like to hear about you and why you’re interested in fashion journalism. We'll also tell you a bit more about our course and what makes us special.
You also need three passes at GCSE grade C or above. This must include maths and English language, or a minimum of Level 2 Key Skills in Communication and Application of Number. If you've studied for a GCSE that has a numerical grade, you'll need to achieve a grade 4 or above.
