This highly practical Speech and Language Therapy (Hons) degree at Bath Spa University covers the core theoretical knowledge and specialist clinical skills you'll need to enter the speech and language therapy profession. What does a speech and language therapist do?

Speech and language therapists treat, support and care for those with speech, language, communication, eating, drinking or swallowing disorders. They're in currently high demand, particularly within the NHS workforce.

This is a vocational qualification designed to prepare you to enter the workforce after graduation. As a speech and language therapist you may work with parents, teachers, nurses and doctors in a variety of settings across health, care, education, children’s services, and justice services.

Programme Structure

Courses include:

In your first year you'll focus on basic biomedical science skills. You may also cover topics such as anatomy, inclusive education, clinical and professional practice, and phonetics.
In your second year you'll build on the skills you've already acquired and deepen your knowledge of the profession. Depending on your chosen modules, you may study topics such as cognitive and biological psychology, swallowing disorders and communication.
In your third year you'll focus more on professional practice, and you may explore working with different age groups, as well evidence-based practice and data analysis.
