Overview

European Studies

This programme is offered as an interfaculty programme of the Faculty for Social Wellbeing and the Institute for European Studies.

You shall be required to register and obtain credits for study-units to which a total of not less than 80 ECTS credits are assigned as indicated in the programmes of study. The programme of studies aims to provide you with a solid and comprehensive knowledge of the European Union from a multi-disciplinary angle, involving the politics, economics, law and history of European Integration.

The European Studies and Gender and Sexualities degree offered by University of Malta aims to develop your analytical skills and to deepen your critical appraisal of EU policies and EU affairs in general. Special emphasis is also laid, where appropriate, on the deepening of knowledge of the theories and theoretical frameworks employed by the various disciplines in assessing EU policies.

Gender and Sexualities

Throughout the programme, you will learn how to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding about the main concepts and milestones underpinning the areas of gender and sexualities, the impact on different perspectives of everyday life, and the knowledge that has been gained over the last decades internationally, as well as explore how these have developed in the Maltese context.

Careers

Fine Arts

As a fine arts graduate, you will have a number of career opportunities, both locally and abroad, in which you can employ your invaluable artistic skill-set. These include roles such as an art therapist, community arts worker, advertising art director, fine artist, graphic designer, conservator, illustrator, animator and exhibition designer.

If you are interested in furthering your studies, or are considering an academic profession, then they encourage you to enrol in one of the local postgraduate courses for a honed and holistic academic experience.

French

As a French graduate, you will have a number of local and international career paths available. These professions include; translator, archivist, author, community worker, immigration officer, travel agent, researcher, public policy analyst, speech writer, journalist, mediator, non-profit administrator, editor, cultural interpreter, community worker and paralegal.

General requirements

The General Entry Requirements are the Matriculation Certificate and a pass at grade 5 or better or at SEC Level 3 in the Secondary Education Certificate examinations in English Language, Maltese and Mathematics.

The Matriculation Certificate comprises six subjects and is awarded if students obtain a certain number of points including passes in a language, a science subject and a humanistic subject as well as a pass in a subject entitled ‘Systems of Knowledge’. Two of the six subjects must be at Advanced Level, three others at Intermediate Level and Systems of Knowledge.

If you pursued your secondary education outside Malta, the University would accept comparable qualifications, provided that the required mix of subjects and levels would is comparable to the Matriculation Certificate.
