Overview
Children's nursing is a career built on trust - with young patients who may be frightened or in pain, and with families looking for reassurance at some of the most worrying moments of their lives.
Caring for children and young people calls for a particular kind of nurse. With the Nursing (Childrens) (Hons) programme offered by University of East London, you'll learn how to communicate with patients at every stage of development, from newborns to teenagers, and how to work closely with parents, carers and wider healthcare teams. From your first term, you'll build the clinical knowledge and professional judgement at the heart of good children's nursing, supported by tutors with real experience in the field.
On campus, you'll learn in well-equipped teaching spaces and advanced simulation facilities, practising your response to paediatric scenarios safely before stepping into practice.
Placements are arranged through our partnerships with local healthcare providers and tailored to the course, giving you exposure to a breadth of children's health settings. This approach supports the NHS Long Term Plan and helps meet the rising need for skilled children's nurses.
Careers
As a registered children's nurse, you will be able to apply for roles within the NHS and/or the private and independent sector. Children's nurses are part of multidisciplinary teams that look after patients.
You will be working in teams that include doctors, hospital play staff, healthcare assistants, newborn hearing screeners, psychologists and social workers.
With the knowledge and experience gained from this children's nursing degree, you can build a fulfilling and rewarding career in the healthcare field.
