Overview
Throughout this Power Engineering, 4th Class degree from Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) you'll also develop a strong foundation in workplace safety, electricity, instrumentation, and the principles behind heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
You’ll build technical expertise aligned with Alberta Boiler Safety Association (ABSA) standards, preparing you to challenge the 4th Class Power Engineering certification exams. This industry-recognized credential is your first step toward a career in power engineering and can lead to further certification at higher class levels.

understand the principles and applications of thermodynamics and heat transfer
monitor and manage water treatment systems for safe and efficient operation
apply electrical theory and basic instrumentation used in power plants
operate heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) and refrigeration systems
follow occupational health and safety procedures and regulatory standards
interpret and troubleshoot control logic and system operations
prepare for the ABSA 4th Class Power Engineer certification exams
