Overview

Through the Mechanical Engineering Technology degree from Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) you will learn how to effectively analyze mechanical systems and to optimize them for a project’s needs — including designing and developing systems, the manufacturing and development of parts, and analysis techniques. You will also learn current trends seen in the industry and how to meet these challenges with hands-on learning in our specialized labs.

Graduates of the programme are prepared for a mechanical engineering technologist career in manufacturing, mechanical design, production and more.

Programme Structure

Some of the specific skills you will acquire include:

design of mechanical components, assemblies and systems
specifications for machining operations/production methods and tooling for the manufacture of metal parts
cost estimating for fabrication, pressure vessels, construction, manufacturing, piping systems and projects
selection and evaluation of machinery
layout design for office, warehouse and plant
production activity evaluation
methods analysis techniques using quality-management and quality-control tools
