Overview
Through the Laboratory Research and Biotechnology degree from Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) you will gain a deep understanding of key scientific disciplines while mastering laboratory techniques that meet industry standards.
Throughout the programme, you will learn how to use and apply current technologies and research methods in biochemistry, microbiology, molecular biology, immunology, cell culture and animal physiology. You’ll also learn animal-handling techniques and the principles of quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) that are imperative in a lab. Beyond technical skills, you’ll be shown the importance of effective communication, and laboratory competency, and learn to work safely and efficiently in a team environment.
Graduates of the programme are well-equipped for careers in research labs, biotechnology firms and pharmaceutical companies. Potential roles include biotechnology technician, research assistant, quality control analyst and lab technologist.
