Overview
Students can choose from specialized tracks such as Health and Biopharmaceuticals, Food and Environmental Sciences, Cosmetics, Bioinformatics and Digital Technologies, or Entrepreneurship and Innovation, allowing them to focus on their interests and career goals while gaining real-world experience in the biotechnology industry.
The Engineering in Biotechnology programme at SupBiotech Paris is a comprehensive 5-year curriculum designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in the dynamic field of biotechnology. This programme is structured to provide a blend of theoretical education, practical experience, and international exposure, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared for leadership roles in various biotechnological sectors.
Programme Structure
The programme is divided into two main cycles:
- Preparatory Cycle (2 years):
The initial two years focus on building a strong foundation in scientific principles, including experimental sciences, economics, and social sciences. Students are encouraged to develop autonomy and critical thinking skills, preparing them for more specialized studies in the subsequent years. The preparatory cycle is available in both French and English, catering to a diverse student body.
- Engineering Cycle (3 years):
In the final three years, students delve deeper into specialized areas of biotechnology. The curriculum includes advanced courses in cellular biology, immunology, molecular biology, and bioproduction. Students also engage in hands-on laboratory work and participate in the SupBiotech Innovation Project (SBIP), a ten-week immersive experience that focuses on project management and innovation in biotechnology. This phase culminates in the award of the Engineering Degree in Biotechnology, accredited by the Commission des Titres d'Ingénieur (CTI).
Specializations
Students have the opportunity to tailor their education by choosing from various specializations, allowing them to align their studies with their career aspirations. These specializations include:
- Health and Biopharmaceuticals: Focusing on drug development, therapeutic strategies, and pharmaceutical sciences.
- Food and Environmental Sciences: Addressing challenges in food safety, sustainability, and environmental biotechnology.
- Cosmetics: Exploring innovations in skincare products and cosmetic formulations.
- Bioinformatics and Digital Technologies: Integrating computational tools with biological data analysis.
- Entrepreneurship and Innovation: Emphasizing startup culture, business development, and technological innovation.
Practical Experience
A key component of the programme is the emphasis on practical experience. Students are required to complete 12 months of internships throughout their studies, providing them with real-world exposure to the biotechnology industry. Additionally, the programme encourages international mobility, allowing students to participate in exchange programmes and gain global perspectives on biotechnology practices.
Career Prospects
Graduates of the Engineering in Biotechnology programme are well-positioned to pursue careers in various sectors, including pharmaceuticals, healthcare, agriculture, environmental science, and cosmetics. The programme's strong industry connections and focus on innovation ensure that students are equipped with the skills and knowledge to succeed in the rapidly evolving biotechnology landscape.
