Got a story to tell? On this hands-on, immersive filmmaking degree, you’ll work in professional-standard studios as you develop your creative voice and master the technical and collaborative craft behind drama, documentary, and experimental film.

From your very first concept to final cut, you’ll learn how to shape ideas into powerful visual experiences that connect with audiences. You’ll explore directing, cinematography, sound, editing, and production, gaining a deep understanding of how films are made and why they matter.

Taught by industry-experienced tutors, the course mirrors professional working practices and encourages collaboration, experimentation, and independent thinking. You’ll work across every stage of the filmmaking process, build confidence in your creative decisions, and graduate as a technically skilled, imaginative filmmaker ready for the screen industries, or to forge your own creative path.

As part of your Filmmaking (Hons) course from Leeds Beckett University you’ll: 

• Study theory that will inform your practice and be guided by experienced tutors in a range of specialisms 

• Explore a number of filmmaking disciplines, including directing drama, experimental film and documentary, producing, cinematography, screenwriting, production design, editing and post-production, and location and post-production sound

• Learn how to engage different audiences

• Explore the responsibilities of your practice, discovering and developing who you are as a filmmaker

Career opportunities:

This filmmaking course will prime you to enter an industry that is demanding, continually changing and highly competitive. You’ll emerge with a strong understanding of your specialism and with a focused approach towards personal development and career planning. Graduates have worked on TV series like Game of Thrones, 24: Live Another Day and Utopia. As well as films such as Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Fury and Maleficent. Some of the students have gained internships at Working Title Films and ITV or have gone on to postgraduate study at the Northern Film School.
