Overview
The Psychology, Health and Wellbeing (Top-Up) (Hons) course from the University of Gloucestershire explores health and wellbeing through psychology, considering how theory and research help us understand people in various social, political, and economic contexts.
You’ll learn how psychology is applied in professional settings like health psychology, counselling, and clinical psychology to tackle health and wellbeing challenges. The course aims to develop critical thinkers who can integrate these perspectives into their practice.
You will gain skills to work within evidence-based frameworks that combine research, clinician expertise, and client values. Your research skills will be honed through an independent project on a topic of your choice, focusing on designing, delivering, and evaluating psychological interventions and therapies.
Graduates can pursue careers in services promoting mental and physical health in settings such as the NHS, education, and social care. This degree also provides a foundation for further postgraduate or professional study, such as our MSc Psychology conversion course or a research degree.
Career opportunities:
This course has strong connections with industry – you’ll learn from lecturers who work within the NHS as practitioner psychologists and researchers. There are also strong links with local charitable organisations in the fields of mental health, wellbeing, and health psychology.
You’ll benefit from learning with a group of highly skilled, qualified, enthusiastic staff who have a passion for health, wellbeing, and of course psychology more broadly.
The skills, knowledge and connections you’ll gain will enable you to graduate career-ready. Graduates from this course can go on to work as psychological well-being practitioners, education mental health practitioners, wellbeing advisors, health trainers, social prescribers and peer support workers
You could also progress to postgraduate study and train as a professional psychologist.
