Students who complete the Heavy Mechanical Trades Foundation program from British Columbia Institute of Technology will receive technical training credit for Apprenticeship level 1 and 450 work-based hours credit toward completion of the Heavy Duty Equipment Technician apprenticeship program.

Career

The BCIT student outcomes report presents summary findings from the annual survey of former students administered by BC Stats one to two years after graduation. These reports combine the last three years of available results for the 2020-2022 BCIT Outcomes Surveys of 2019-2021 graduates and for Degree 2017-2019 graduates. The reports are organized into three-page summaries containing information on graduates’ labour market experiences and opinions regarding their education. High school graduation is recommended by SkilledTradesBC. Please refer to the SkilledTradesBC website for current apprenticeship prerequisite information.
A driver's licence is not required to enter the program. However, it is strongly recommended in order to move vehicles in and out of the shops.
Potential students with medical or physical disabilities should contact Accessibility Services to arrange an interview with the institute's rehabilitation specialist at 604-451-6963 (telephone interview is acceptable for out of town applicants).

International applicants

This program is available to international applicants. A valid study permit is required prior to starting the program.
