Overview

During the Product Design (Hons) programme at Bournemouth University you’ll learn all the practical skills necessary to work in the sector as well as examining the theory behind product design, so that when you graduate you'll have a balanced view of the product development process to complement your practical experience.

You can spend year 3 on a work placement, gaining a minimum of 30 weeks’ experience in a relevant industry. Following your placement year you will be able to choose between following either a BA (Hons) or a BSc (Hons) Product Design award title. The BSc (Hons) option focuses on the technological aspect of design, whereas the BA (Hons) option focuses on the aesthetic and contextual issues relating to Product Design. You could also choose to extend your undergraduate study for the award of Master of Design (MDes) Product Design.

This course combines practical skills, academic knowledge and excellent work experience to give you a head start once you begin your job search. Learning about the practicalities involved with making actual products will give you a true overview of the production process, preparing you for work at every level from designer through to production manager.

  • For September 2020 entry: The entry requirements for this course are 104 - 120 UCAS tariff points including a minimum of 2 A-levels or equivalent. BTEC Extended Diploma: DMM.
  • GCSEs: GCSE English Language or English Literature and Mathematics grade C (or grade 4 in the reformed GCSE grading) or equivalent qualifications.
