Description
The BU Maintenance Bursary is available to eligible new undergraduate students with Home fee status who are beginning an undergraduate degree at Bournemouth University.
The bursary is intended to reduce financial barriers for students from lower-income households by providing non-repayable financial support throughout their studies, subject to continued eligibility each year. The bursary is awarded automatically and is available for full-time and part-time undergraduate students, including eligible Foundation Year and Top-up students.
Benefits
Up to £2,400 over three years of study (£800 per year).
Up to £3,200 for students undertaking a Foundation Year with the higher tuition fee (£800 per year over four years).
£800 for eligible one-year Top-up degree students.
Eligibility
- Must have Home fee status.
- Must be ordinarily resident in England.
- Must be eligible for both the Tuition Fee Loan and Maintenance Loan from Student Finance England.
- Must be a new undergraduate student studying an eligible full-time or part-time course.
- Must be studying a first undergraduate degree, including eligible Top-up programmes.
- Must have a household income of £16,000 or below.
- Foundation Year students must be paying the higher Foundation Year tuition fee to receive the enhanced award.
- Students ordinarily resident in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland are not eligible.

There is no separate application. Eligible students are automatically assessed provided they:
Complete an income assessment through Student Finance England.
Give consent for Student Finance England to share their information with Bournemouth University.
Part-time students should contact AskBU to be assessed for eligibility.
