Description
The BU Estrangement Bursary is available to new undergraduate students who have been classed as estranged by Student Finance England.
The bursary is awarded automatically to eligible students and is intended to reduce financial barriers by providing support throughout the duration of an undergraduate degree. Payments continue each year of study, provided the student remains eligible and is not undertaking a placement year.
Benefits
Up to £9,000 over three years of study.
Up to £12,000 for students studying a Foundation Year and paying the higher Foundation Year tuition fee.
£3,000 for eligible one-year Top-up degree students.
Eligibility
- Must be classed as estranged by Student Finance England.
- Must have Home fee status.
- Must be ordinarily resident in England for the required period before the course starts.
- Must be eligible for both the Tuition Fee Loan and Maintenance Loan from Student Finance England.
- Must be a new student on an eligible full-time or part-time undergraduate course at Bournemouth University or the eligible Wiltshire College Salisbury programme.
- Foundation Year students must pay the higher Foundation Year tuition fee.
- Must have a household income of £25,000 or less.
- Eligibility must be met each academic year to continue receiving the bursary.

There is no separate application. Eligible students are automatically considered provided they:
Complete an income assessment through Student Finance England.
Declare their estranged student status.
Give consent for Student Finance England to share their information with Bournemouth University.
