Overview
History and Journalism from The University of the West Indies will benefit from a wide variety of courses that explore major regions of the world, without losing our focus on the Caribbean. My colleagues and I will dare you to be proactive, as you learn about the past and develop valuable skills for your careers in the future.

Careers
A degree in History, Archaeology and Heritage Studies provides our graduates with the ability to gain employment in private or public sector jobs which emphasize strengths such as: Experience in research methodology, Information management, Critical thinking/analytical skills aimed at problem solving, Critical analysis of all kinds of written, numerical and visual texts, Oral and written communication skills, Understanding of the past as a means of appreciating national identities and cultures and explaining current global trends.
Programme Structure

- The Study of the Past in the Atlantic World
- Caribbean Media History Since 1717
- Principles and Practice of Journalism
- Writing for Journalism
- Basic Media Production At least ONE other Level I History course
- Conquest, Colonization and Resistance in the Caribbean, 1600 to the end of slavery
- Freedom, Decolonization and Independence in the Caribbean since 1804
- Digital History
- Media Ethics and Legal Issues

General requirements
- Five CSEC subjects (General Proficiency Grades I-III) and/or GCE O'Level / BGCSE subjects (Grades A-C) including English Language AND two double Units CAPE subjects or 2 GCE A-Level subjects (one of which must be a Humanities subject for which courses are taught at the University). Strongly recommended : A foreign language
- Individuals without a foreign language pass, at least at CXC CSEC, will be required to take a least one of the basic foreign languages courses.
