Overview

Practical in focus, field trips and archival visits let you encounter evidence from the past first-hand on this History and Archaeology degree. The University’s site at Henfaes provides access to various landscapes, including maritime, intertidal, farmland, river valley and uplands. 

You could find yourself scanning the topography of Abergwyngregyn, using a drone to detect new sites that may not be apparent from the ground. You might help organise archival records, or uncover new treasures like former students did at the Iron Age hillfort of Meillionydd or the Bronze Age Pillar of Eliseg. You’ll be joining us in our mission to promote, protect, and present our heritage.

Careers

Studying History and Archaeology equips you with the insights and skills to make a significant contribution to future society. It prepares you to directly support local, national or even global efforts to protect, preserve, record and raise awareness and understanding of the past.

Working in archaeology, culture, heritage, publishing, education or academia opens up a huge range of specialist careers. For instance, in archival work, the scientific study of remains, illustrating finds, managing databases, conserving artefacts, curating exhibitions, teaching students, or educating the public.

Alternatively, your experience and ability to investigate and solve problems, formulate and present logical and structured arguments, can be adapted to offer research, commentary or analysis, and contribute to policy and practice very much in the present.
