Overview

Industrial Heavy Equipment Technology from Northern Alberta Institute of Technology focuses on highway and off-highway mobile equipment, as well as engine-powered stationary equipment used in mining, logging, trucking, agriculture, gas processing, oilfield servicing and construction.Industries including mining, logging, trucking, agriculture, transportation, gas processing, oilfield servicing and construction are all in-demand for heavy equipment service personnel with an advanced level of technical training to tackle the challenge of advancing technology. 

Careers

Graduates will generally apprentice as heavy equipment technicians. Occasionally, they may apprentice as automotive technicians or millwrights, or enter larger firms, planning preventive maintenance programs.

During the four semesters of Industrial Heavy Equipment Technology program training, graduates will apply to Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training to challenge period exams for the Heavy Equipment apprenticeship program. Those who become indentured apprentices may be granted credit toward any of the possible heavy equipment technician specialties with type and amount of credit determined by their employer.

Graduates may also choose to work in sales or purchasing, which involves the technical specifications for equipment. Entering into a business situation is made easier by the technical and management background provided in this program.
