Overview

The Advanced Welding Technology degree from Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) provides hands-on training in fabrication, product innovation and inspection methods, equipping you with foundational skills that are in high demand. Students will gain the leadership skills necessary to excel in the welding industry.

Growing demand in environmental industries and infrastructure repair, along with the increasing rate of retirements among experienced welders, means graduates will have diverse career opportunities in welding, fabrication and industrial construction. This programme serves as a direct pathway into apprenticeship trades training at NAIT without the need to be a registered apprentice first.

Programme Structure

Learning outcomes for this programme include the ability to:

identify safety hazards and comply with legislation
operate and maintain welding equipment
perform welds using processes such as shielded metal arc, gas tungsten and wire feed processes including gas metal arc, flux core, and metal core
perform various thermal cutting processes
demonstrate and analyze product creation and efficiencies
identify and describe metals and their properties
employ effective written and verbal communications skills appropriate for the industry
