Overview
The Sociology and Communication programme at Simon Fraser University provides a rigorous academic framework for understanding how individuals organise and navigate social life. This joint major allows students to investigate the complex intersections between media, communication systems, and the structural foundations of modern society. By combining these two disciplines, the university offers a unique perspective on how information flow influences social behaviour and institutional development.
Students are encouraged to develop a "sociological imagination," a critical quality of mind that enables them to analyse the world in innovative ways. The curriculum focuses on the dynamics of social justice, public policy, and the diverse subcultures that define contemporary existence.
