Overview
The Anthropology and Archaeology programme at Simon Fraser University offers students a rigorous academic foundation in the study of human societies past and present. This interdisciplinary degree allows learners to bridge the gap between social sciences and environmental studies through diverse perspectives. By integrating these two fields, the curriculum provides a holistic understanding of human development and cultural diversity.
Students have the flexibility to pursue their Bachelor of Arts through either the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences or the Faculty of Environment. This choice allows individuals to tailor their academic experience according to their specific research interests and professional goals.
Why Anthropology and Archaeology at Simon Fraser University?
Choosing this programme means gaining access to world-class expertise across two distinct departments: the Department of Sociology and Anthropology and the Department of Archaeology. The university is well-regarded for its hands-on approach, offering students the chance to work on archaeological digs around the globe. This practical experience is balanced with intensive laboratory work, where students learn to analyse physical evidence and material remains.
The dual-faculty structure is a significant advantage, providing access to a broad range of facilities and resources. Whether focusing on the social aspects of human behaviour or the physical records of ancient civilisations, students benefit from a curriculum that is both deep and wide-ranging. The programme is designed to foster critical thinking and technical proficiency in modern research methods.
