The program will provide students with a solid understanding of the operation of capital markets and capital market instruments, including equities, fixed income securities, as well futures markets, options and other derivatives. The program will provide students with an in-depth understanding of topics in modern finance and financial economics as it relates to the capital structure of firms and how these financial instruments affect the overall operation of modern financial systems.

Students have the option of pursuing a BA in Economics and Finance or a BBA in Economics in Finance. Both the BA and BBA programs in EFIN are affiliated with the CFA Institute’s University Affiliation Program. The University Affiliation Program recognizes academic institutions that embed at least 70% of the CFA Program Candidate Body of Knowledge (CBOK) into their curricula.

In addition to meeting The University of Winnipeg’s general admission requirements, you must have either Pre-Calculus Mathematics 40S or Applied Mathematics 40S or equivalent.

High school students lacking this background can complete MATH-0041 and then MATH-0042 which are offered by the University’s Math Department and which will allow them to register in Intro Calculus and other quantitative type courses which are required for this program.

Students will still need to meet the English Language Requirements of the university.
