Overview
You will develop the core theoretical knowledge and specialist clinical skills required by the speech and language therapy profession while learning the academic study skills you need to earn a higher education qualification.
The Speech and Language Therapy course from the The University of Manchester places particular emphasis on scientific thinking, preparing you to incorporate clinical enquiry into your chosen career path. You will gain practical, hands-on experience through placements.
You will be able to register with the Health and Care Professions Council and the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists after graduation. MSpchLangTher students will only be able to go into practice after the end of their fourth year.

Career opportunities
Speech and language therapists in the UK are mainly employed by the NHS, although there are opportunities within charitable and private organisations.
Many therapists work in educational settings and some set up in independent practice or take research posts. There are also opportunities overseas.
Our graduates have gone on to work in areas such as:
- acute dysphagia and stroke rehabilitation;
- community paediatrics;
- paediatrics within education for disabled children;
- research at The University of Manchester.

- We typically require grades AAB. No specific subjects are required, but a mixture of science and arts subjects is recommended.
- General Studies and Critical Thinking are welcomed, but are not normally included as part of the standard offer.
